Prompt #24: Your Favorite Food
This past week I ate cheesecake on 3 separate days. I have many favorite foods, but cheesecake is my most decadent. I was away for work in Virginia and the treating-myself got a little out of hand. I feel large and sluggish now. As a result, my former college roommate, Katie, and I have resurrected our "salad bet" which we did a few times in school - usually every spring for swimsuit season. (It never worked as well as you'd hope, but I think it can help me get back on track with healthier eating.) The bet is this: we both eat nothing but salad until one of us breaks. A salad is defined, generally, as consisting of minimum 50% greens of some variety. This is to kick out false salads like potato salad and macaroni salad. It's important to remember the point of this bet is not to win by technicality, but to stay true to its spirit. This year, we've also added fruit and nuts to the acceptable foods, because I hike and she eats breakfast and salads are pretty incompatible with those ideas. So now I can bring walnuts and craisins on hikes and she can have fruit smoothies in the morning. The only thing you get from winning the bet is that you've won the bet. That, and bragging rights. I've always been fond of bragging rights.
I won this bet one year. So, I feel pretty okay about it.
