The Future Is So Bright I've Got To Wear Shades - Timbuk 3
RDU Airport
I have 7 clocks in my room, they were 1 dollar each from IKEA. I stack them in weird formations on my shelf as a weird sound sculpture - individually, they're all pretty loud. But unlike a single clock, with it's long, drawn out, tick-tocking- 7 cheap cheap clocks combine in this funky, 60 bpm subdued drumbeat that I don't get annoyed by. Rhythmically, it reminds me of this rim shots in this song.
You should record them and post. Would love to hear audio of your weird, cheap IKEA clocks.
I'm not sure if the clocks went out of sync or if I'm listening to it differently today, but it sounds nothing like it was last night.
Thank you!!! What a great rythm. Edit: I love things like this. I used to work in a factory making parts for auto with a lathe. All the sounds in that place were phenomenal. I would construct songs in my mind all day long.
Yo La Tengo - Friday I'm In Love is playing from my kitchen, on repeat as I learn how to play and sing it. If you don't like this cover I will go to wherever you are, Hubski, and fight you. The "It's Friday I'm In Love" immediately after the bridge is so ridiculously well delivered. Smiles every time.
That video was amazing and I loved their version of the song. Thanks for sharing
The only song I hear in sparsely populated cafe is the refrigeration unit's thrum on repeat. But the song echoing in my head is Disturbed's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence.
So I am sitting in a line dancing bar waiting to give a bracelet I repaired back to its owner and they just started playing Shoop by Salt n Pepa Old white ladies dancing to this. I am dying. Also, I am now struggling with both a weird nostalgia for middle school and a desire to watch Deadpool again.
Working on a big-ass project in a group (of course right in the middle of finals), and so here's what we're jamming to: Martin Garrix & Firebeatz Helicopter (Original Mix)
It's not playing but it's stuck in my head. It's the theme song for Suits, a great TV show I recently started watching. When I first heard it I thought the front man sounded a lot like Alex Ebert (of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes), but since it's by Ima Robot I figured it was just a coincidence. Turns out Alex Ebert fronts Ima Robot :)
Tragically Hip - Fire in the Hole - Woodstock. 1999. I was just listening to the full concert and that is their final song. The whole intro is improv (obviously I think) as are many of the lyrics. The singer just came out as dying of brain cancer so they are into their final summer tour ever. I have seen them dozens of times over the last 30 years but will not be seeing their final tour. The cheapest price for tickets I would sit in are $1,300+. :(
"Same Drugs," starts at 18:42 on Chance's Coloring Book mixtape, which I've been playing a lot lately. I'm a big fan of Chance. "Same Drugs" really just hits a spot in me - from some of its very beginning lines: "When did you change? Wendy, you've aged" - to its carry-through of the Peter Pan trope all the way to the end: "Don't forget the happy thoughts. All you need is happy thoughts." I love this song, and I love the whole mixtape as well. The best moment of the song is the question, "Where did you go to end up right back here?"
Jeremih of all people brought him out at Pitchfork. I was hanging out waiting for Miguel -- because who actually goes to Jeremih? at one point he was like "it's a very special day today, my mom's birthday" and he or someone blasted ten quick notes of Birthday Sex and we were all hang on what come on now lad -- anyway I was at Miguel and we heard a massive cheer, but not like a Chicago-loves-Chance massive cheer, so I was guessing J Cole, but then it was Chance and maybe just no one recognized him at first. Who cares though, Miguel was better than them both combined. He used to be Marvin Gaye but now he's James fucking Brown and his presence on stage is ridiculous.
