This is a great idea, alpha0. I'm following #library. :)

Geez, now I want to make a #library post...

BTW, I am going to read this book. I don't think I care much about a Great Heresy, but I know far too little about these things. Catechism focused more on parables that could be colored with crayons. :/

For one thing, I felt like I could have enjoyed Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulumn more if I had a deeper perspective.

"Foucault's Pendulumn" - I remember that nasty book. Plays some deep head games on the reader.

It definitely stuck with me for a while. It also felt lopsided. I have to say that I enjoyed The Name of the Rose more. I'm guessing that you've read it. But if you haven't, you should.

I haven't read anything else by Eco. I've been told that The Island of the Day Before is unreadable.

Interesting author.

I would agree with the Name of the Rose being better, and I did also struggle through The Island of the Day Before.

I would like to try and read some of his other works, mainly essays if I remember correctly, but I don't know whether they would be too technical or available in an English translation

Yeah, if anything else he wrote approached The Name of the Rose I'd jump on it. That's one of those books that I recommend to anyone.

The Prague Cemetery sounds promising. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prague_Cemetery

Yes, Rose was a good tale.
