Maybe reddit is exactly what the front page of the internet is. Want to see what the internet looks like outside of oases like Hubski? Reddit's a pretty good example -Pseudoscience, photos of conventionally attractive women in photos they may or may not have consented to, racism, complaints of censorship on what is effectively private property. Oh, and the occasional cat pic.

Forgive me if i seem jaded, but Reddit isn't "the problem". Reddit is just a very good example of a cultural problem, as well as what happens when

1.) opinion is as good as fact

2.) anonymity is paramount.

Maybe reddit is exactly what the front page of the internet is.

Reddit is exactly what the front page of the Internet wants to be.

You leave thousands of people on their own with barely any guidelines, this is what you get - in any community. Sure, Reddit's condition is exacerbated with the anonymity that Internet grants, but without personal responsibility - like that existing in small groups, like Hubski - you don't get to wield power without negative repercussions, like lowering of the cultural par. People digress when they have nothing to keep them going; it's true for personal progress as much as for social communications.

So, no, Reddit isn't the problem. It's a tool of communication, a mold, not unlike Hubski. The problem, like most of the time, is in the people using it.
