I'm sure I will get smacked for saying this, but the last truly great Radiohead album is "The Bends." The rest have their moments. -Some great ones, but this album is great all the way through imo.
No smack from me. I think the last truly great Radiohead ROCK album is "The Bends." And I think for me... it's all about which Radiohead we're talking about. If we're talking about Radiohead the rock band... or Radiohead the experimental rock band. Or Radiohead the pseudo-electronica rock band. Or Radiohead the symphonic rock band... and on and on... I sincerely appreciate their evolution and change. It's refreshing. The Bends clearly stands up all on its own. Every song is strong and tight. It came to me at a time in my life that I was RIPE for something new - and The Bends was it.the last truly great Radiohead album is "The Bends."
Yeah, timing has a lot to do with it. To me it's always been like a grown ups version of the Blue album, by Weezer. Which I also enjoyed, but the Bends came to me when I needed it. Songs like "Nice Dream," "Fake Plastic Trees," and "High and Dry," were on target for young me.
Absolutely not going to smack you for it. It's a great album. And I agree that it's great the whole way through. I think it was actually the first album that I listened to from start to finish without stopping to do anything else except listen. But then there was Hail to the Thief. For some reason, it just resonated with me. Whenever I put it on I get shivers. Every song stirs some emotion inside me. There There is also my favourite Radiohead song, so that gives the album bonus points. But hey, that's just what I like.
