If I click on "Dismiss" for an individual notification, I am taken back to my feed but my wheel stays blue and the notification stays there. If I go back a second time and click dismiss again, it goes away.
"Dismiss All" seems to do what it is supposed to.
Since there's already a post on this, I'd like to piggyback on it, and ask a question. I've noticed that when my wheel is orange, I might sometimes click on it and find the top comment to be the same as it was. I have a feeling that a comment lower down got a reply but I'm not sure. Is that how it works? Is there any way to know where the new comment is from if it's an embedded comment?
Right. I think notifications are sorted by age when the person first replies. But if you reply back and then they reply back, it looks like it continues to sort by the first reply. I might not be right about that, so I'll wait for mk to tell us also. But it does seem like the second reply doesn't sort to the top. If that's the case, I'm wondering how to find the second (or third, etc.) reply. Edit: I can see a case where that's not true in my notifications. I always thought that the orange notification was for a comment that was buried, but perhaps not. Then maybe that goes back to your question about the notification not clearing properly? 2nd edit: steve's reply showed the issue. When he replied to me below, the reply did not bump to the top of my notifications. I would not have found it if I hadn't read through these comments again.
Thanks for doing that! That was a fantastic example. Since I had two replies to me from others after I made the first reply to you, it didn't bump to the top. I would have missed it if I hadn't read this thread again. Your reply is embedded under the time stamp of your first reply. Your second reply is just added to the tree that was already there. Since I was responding to notifications from others, I wouldn't have noticed your reply since it didn't bump to the top. Is there a way to find your reply? Did this reply bump to the top of your notifications?
Ah, I now see what you're saying. I didn't realize I was supposed to dismiss the reply, so I've never done it before. But this reply was at the top of my notifications despite my not dismissing it while the other reply remained in the tree. So it does seem like the dismiss works at times but not others since I don't ever hit it, and sometimes the reply will be at the top of my notifications and other times, it will be embedded in the tree. In any case, thanks for letting me know that I should be dismissing my notifications. That's helpful to know.
Haha! Egads. You're right. That's not what I wanted to do at all. I hit the dismiss all, thinking it would clear the 'cookie' for new replies. I didn't realize they would all disappear. I like having the history on where I've been so I can look back and find the places I've participated. Lesson learned. I won't be hitting that again. I'll try to be less hasty in the future. Thanks for bringing up this topic. I'm learning a lot.
Ha, well, I complained of the same thing a little bit ago, and felt just as bad about the insignificance of the bug. It's a peculiar one because it lacks the replicability of other bugs.
oh right... like you've got a day job, a family, a start-up, a hobby, or anything IMPORTANT going on... You wake up in the morning just waiting to see bugs reported on hubski... especially little tiny ones like this... (of course I kid) Anyway - I guess blackbootz has seen it too. Neither of us seem to be able to reproduce it reliably though.
