The interesting thing to me was how they all use the exact same phrase. I assume that the "news" gets passed down, and the local networks simply parrot it.
There should be some actual reporting in local news, but there is not. It's almost like one guy wrote a crap story and sold it to a bunch of networks to get his dog website some traffic. I don't want to sound paranoid, but I can hardly believe this was an accident -- however funny and potentially embarrassing.

My guess is that there is an AP for "cuteness" that they all pull from. Keep in mind that they are all owned by the same conglomerates, could be that the parent company has equity in a dog-social media site?
