I don't see what the controversy is here. This is all the fault of rogue engineers. There's no reason why executives should have to be punished for something that's not their fault. /s

I can be pretty cynical, but I've concluded executive bonuses are really just a way of paying executives higher salaries without having to admit they pay them a ton. Either the company does well (see, they deserve this) or it does poorly (it's unfair to penalize them for something outside their control). No matter what they're going to get a stack of cash. It may be smaller some years, but there's a minimum amount that really isn't at risk.

I think in this case, it's more than fair for executives to lose their bonuses. If it were the blue collar workers that had to deal with the negative fallout, that'd be downright criminal. They're the ones who have the most to lose out of all of this.
