I think it's because you have to be an unbridled asshole to be an executive at Gawker.
Solid observation. They seem to have this attitude to of being untouchable and liking to poke the bear until it bites. Anybody working on sites like that really. My favourite story involving shitty "reporters" was when a guy claiming to be a reporter for some right wing blog wasn't allowed into a press conference for the NDP government in Alberta. He went off about how he would sue and all until the NDP brought up that time he swore under oath he wasn't a reporter. I hadn't heard if he's still trying to sue but it felt very good that he was put in his place.
