Thanks for the shout-out. I dig the music, I don't hear the comparison but I definitely take it as a compliment. Per your question, I listened to the album Mouthfuls by Fruit Bats a bunch back in the day and then i'll forget about it for a few years and go, "oh yeah... THAT album..."

There are many others like that. Some that you might think are so ubiquitous I couldn't ever forget them, but Pink Floyd's The Wall was an album I used to listen to in full ALL THE TIME and I probably haven't done that in 15 years. Maybe I should...

lol. That reminded me of how much I enjoyed the soundtrack to Garden State.

Since my car iPod was stolen I only listen to the radio and live in a small redneck town where the choice is either country or classic rock. I absolutely never would put on Pink Floyd or Zeppelin etc since I have heard it all thousands of times, but oh man do I love it sometimes when it comes on. It is incredible how long you can remember lyrics. I heard The Ocean today and was banging the steering wheel and singing way too loud.

you're welcome for the shout-out. And no - I don't think you sound like a strange goth/punk/whatever group from the 80's per se... but I DO think you sound like an artist experimenting with instrumentation and orchestration and I love it.

some one? how about this comment from one of the smartest, talented, musically minded (albeit fairly ornery) dudes I know?

put that fucking feather in your cap. I'm not saying that you should live in other people's response to your art - but damn if that isn't a fairly succinct and positive piece of feedback.
