Good pick. I could give that a second watch as the a lot of Japanese folk imagery went over my head
My wife's Chinese and someone gave her a copy with only Chinese subtitles - no English - no English soundtrack. I had absolutely no idea what the hell I was watching. I guess it's time to watch it again and try and understand it.
I haven't seen it in a long time, but I really enjoyed Waking Life
Waking Life is a fucking trip. Similar but less intense is A Scanner Darkly. I'd highly recommend it if you haven't seen it already.
I was going to throw The Wind Rises into the ring but Princess Mononoke is a better choice. Really anything Studio Ghibli especially those by Hayao Miyazaki .
Mary and Max because it's very subtle and has Philip Seymour Hoffman in it.
An excellent movie that everyone should watch either way!
A bit different compared to the others, World of Tomorrow. It's an animated short that was one of the award winners at Sundance last year. I was lucky enough to get to see most/all of the award winning shorts at one of my local theaters and this was tied for my favorite. It's even available on Netflix.
This was a great short. I gave it a rewatch after my first rewatch of It's Such a Beautiful Day a couple weeks ago and I loved it even more the second time.
I'm going to nominate 2014's The Tale of Princess Kaguya. After hearing all the praise for it, I saw it last year and it must be one of the best animated films I've ever watched. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, and in my opinion, in unquestionable should have won the Oscar last year.
anyone know where you can buy Ghibli movies for digital download?
Doesn't seem like you can. At least as far as I can see. Weird decision.
My daughter has yet to see Pinnichio and I'd love to see that with her. That is my nomination. Regardless, I'll be watching it. I've not seen Spirited Away either.
came to say Paprika would also suggest Triplets de Belleville
