To be clear, I don't necessarily agree with or endorse the ideas espoused in this article.
But then again, technically, by BMI, I'm overweight. This is what happens when you are a short female with visible abs, apparently. (BMI skews most at the low - short - and high - tall - ends of the spectrum.)
Written by the same guy, too. From his wiki page:Campos's contentions that obesity is healthy were praised by some sociologists and critical theorists, and overwhelmingly criticized by medical, epidemiological, and statistical researchers with professional training in empirical research.
Me too. At a 5' 10" and a whopping 176 lbs, the BMI calculator puts me in the lower end of "overweight". I am currently running 5k's in the 23 minute range. Not too bad for an overweight guy. I'm not buying in to all of it either, but this article is worth thinking about. On the contrary, I can't say I've ever seen a centenarian that looked pudgy.

I'm 41 fuckin' years old. I have a 34-inch waist. According to BMI, I'm "overweight" and will be for 20 more pounds. The Wii thinks I need to lose forty pounds. Our six-time champion Chicago Bulls will be remembered as one of the greatest teams ever. But according to the new standards, they are just a bunch of big fat losers:
Exactly. If you have any sort of muscle at all BMI seems to go way off. I think using a sports team to see if BMI is "effective" or not is clearly going to give you a misleading answer. Most seriously obese or actually overweight people don't have that kind of athleticism going for them. My BMI would go to "regular" if I lost maybe 5 pounds, but like I said, I'm wearing size 4 pants. And today I ran 3 10-minute miles!
I remember being terrified of my weight when I first learned about BMI. I'm 5ft 7 and usually floating around 95kg in the rugby off season. Putting me in an allegedly unhealthy spot. Turns out I'm just built like a brick shit house and I'm perfectly healthy. The fear was real though!
