Lately I've been thinking a lot about the japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi (侘寂). I feel very attracted to its concept. But what is wabi-sabi? What is your point of view on this matter?
Wabi-Sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". I wasn't familiar with Wabi-Sabi prior to this post. Above is a link to the wikipedia page. TIL.
I've been exploring the concept for a while. It seem that even the japanese people themselves have difficulties in describing what is wabi-sabi. I think that it is like poetry. You can feel when something is poetic, but you can't explain it. It's a very fascinating idea. Check this page. It has some possible explanation for wabi-sabi: http://touchingstone.com/Wabi_Sabi.html
I will check out the link, thank you. As for Wabi-Sabi, if nothing else, the name in and of itself is pleasing. It reads like a philosophy a Japanese Sammy Hagar might name.
