This article doesn't propose any ideas for how to "end the civil war" or "end the regional Saudi-Iranian conflict." Saying that we shouldn't drop bombs is noble, but when your only other proposed alternative is "tell everybody to stop fighting" and "tell Bashar Assad to step down" it comes off as idealistic. Assad is supported by Russia, largely because of oil trade, and declaring that he should give up because "the Syrian people deserve better" is what got us into this mess in the first place. Diplomacy is complicated, and declaring that one side should unilaterally surrender isn't a compromise that anyone is going to agree to.
I'm not going to touch the "end the regional Saudi-Iranian conflict" statement, since the article didn't even talk about that beyond saying it "needed to end"
