Hmm, reminds me of the desks I had while studying in middle school in Russia. Covered in writing and little drawings from one edge to the other in "older" classrooms. Don't really see it that much in the schools in US and Canada though.

I can't speak for all US schools, but mine growing up, defacing school property was a serious offense. Automatic suspension plus you had to pay for any repairs/replacements. Not many students were willing to take that risk.Don't really see it that much in the schools in US and Canada though.
