If anyone wants to discuss the negative electricity prices, what that means, and what it doesn't mean, the electric system is where I do the engineering part of my user name. Negative pricing happens a lot more than what the article suggests, though to the article's credit it's usually a local issue rather than a state-wide issue.

Flywheels to store excess? crazy?

Flywheels exist! But they're only used for short term power balancing, regulating frequency. Could they be used for storing excess across hours or days? Probably! The limiter there is probably cost rather than the technology.
