Wow. Great article. What a mess. It's bad enough we let our societies be hijacked economically. But having these madmen in power over the scientists who are the only ones providing the information we'd desperately need to use to save our collective behind... What a nightmare.

Yes it is definitely a mess. And yet we continue to vote for them.

Well, Mindwolf, I don't. Many people don't. But I don't think that matters anymore. The system is broken and it's going to break us if something unexpected doesn't happen. Will the media's power continue to override our sense of self preservation as a species? Will the last living human tap around on his Ipad SuperDuperAir 3 and wonder why nobody is updating their facebook status anymore?

"Particularly in the Indian subcontinent, that's a real issue," he says. "There's going to be dislocation there, no question."

And the rising oceans? Bangladesh is almost underwater now. Do a hundred million people have to move?

"Well, yeah. Under business as usual. But I don't think we're fucked."

Resource wars, starvation, mass migrations . . .

"Bad things are going to happen. What can you do as a person? You write stories. I do science. You don't run around saying, 'We're fucked! We're fucked! We're fucked!' It doesn't—it doesn't incentivize anybody to do anything."

Yeah, whatever. Excuse me, gotta get naked and run around town a bit, screaming "We're fucked! We're fucked! We're fucked!"
