The humble one-cent piece is set to disappear from Canadian pockets, a victim of inflation.
Thursday's federal budget said the Royal Canadian Mint will strike the last of the little coins this fall.
I'm curious if the last batch of pennies from the mint will actually be worth more as a collectors item, like maybe 1.2 cents :)
My first house I lived in growing up was less than a block from the railroad tracks. We used to put penny's on the track all the time and flatten them. In fact we put a lot of stuff on the train tracks. GI Joe's, Rocks, Lumber etc. We were actively trying to derail a train at the age of 5. Man, I'm glad we never succeeded. Of all the things we put on the tracks though, the pennies were my favorite. I'm also really good at putting a penny between my thumb and middle finger and snap flinging it at a target. I can do it really fast and accurately.
I can do the snap thing with a bottle cap with extreme accuracy. Actually, no one I know can even touch me. Kind of like spinning things.
I never got on board with the dollar president coins either. I really wonder why the US dollar coin always falls flat. Personally, I think there ought to be a $2 coin. I'd probably carry that.
