My gut feeling is that it is too stream-oriented. More interesting things could be done within circles, but they don't seem much more than a filter. I suppose the lop-sided following mechanism hinders that some. I don't spend much time on Facebook either, however. More than subscribing, I think people are looking for easy ways to organize. I don't get that feeling from Google+.
