In breaking news: white republicans are racist, racism is bullshit, and water is wet. That's pretty much the soul of this here. People want to be affirmed that poor people are poor because they deserve it and black people are bad because of course they are! Anything to make white people comfortable and renew their bigotry.Personally, I found myself more eye-rolling at the whole thing than anything else. The statement made it clear that Paul Ryan is not serious about understanding poverty beyond a few stereotypes he has internalized throughout his life.
