The economics of Los Angeles are such that it is cheaper to hire a live-in nanny than put two kids in daycare. Thus, an extra kid means two extra bedrooms. Let's just say it's not in the cards at the moment, but we're always open to a new deal.

Got it. It's definitely no joke how much #2 changes the financial dynamic. That said, why is "live in" neccesary?

Cheaper that way.

Buddy of mine made that decision two years ago. If you and your spouse work, it's actually cheaper to give the au pair somewhere to live than it is to pay them a wage for them to get it on their own.
