I'm confused. Does this map align to or have anything to do with a standard global map? If it does then I can't see it. If if doesn't then why are there oceans, or an Antarctica-like mass at the south pole? What does 'Digital Ocean' even mean?
Digital Ocean is a company. I think it's a play on words that serves the overall theme of the map.
Is there a company named Spam Ocean? Edit: testtesttest
I too love maps. Also: a similar xkcd and a subreddit dedicated to maps
Here's a larger version of the OP, for those who are also obsessed.. It's pretty neat. and credit to the creator: http://jaysimons.deviantart.com/
ETC! -That's is a pretty kick ass map. Someone had to take a lot of time to come up with that and without the aid of actually seeing anything. Pretty impressive.
Maps are amazing, I love maps! I have this huge wall map from the Netherlands in ~1970 hanging:
One of the maps I really like is this one: It is an Arabian map from 1138, with south being up and Europe on the far bottom right. A bit of a puzzle but a completely different perspective than most maps of that time. You can recognize from left to right Greece's islands, Italy and the blob that is Spain. This one is also amazing: An 1898 map made by Luthereans still believing the geocentric model. The sun would float around in the circle. Amazingly, it reads "Four Hundred Passages in the Bible that Condemn the Globe Theory, or the Flying Earth, and None Sustain It. This Map is the Bible Map of the World." Finally, if I'm ever gonna get a tattoo, it's gonna be this amazing Dymaxion map. It shows the Earth's landmasses as one continuous piece, every person on the Earth connected. Unifying the continents, quite poetic really.
This got me rolling here. thenewgreen I really do love maps as art, like this one. I also love old maps that are patchworked with terrible guesses, and unlabeled maps that allow you to guess the year depicted based on the delineation of the nation-states. And maps with awkward whales.
Shoutout to flagamuffin, a known lover of maps.

Found it on DeviantArt. From the artist: Map of the Internet - First of its kind on such a scale, this map aims for succesful compendation of The Internet to scale suitable for standartized online navigation. This project is still underway, new versions of this map will be available in ulterior months.
Due to the immense size of the Net, only a miniscule portion of it was chosen to represent it on the map. Otherwise, this map would be unreadable and probably undrawable in entire lifespan of average human being.
This poster includes one full map of the internet, 4 minimaps showcasing NSA surveillance, most used social networks, most used internet browser, and worldwide internet penetration, list of Alexa Top 500 websites, quick timeline of the Internet History, top software companies and much more!
P.S. if you are asking, misspelling of "bussiness ocean" is actually intended. One of the many inside jokes on the map.
By Jay Jason SimonsFirst version of the Map of the Internet. This is definitely not the final version, incredible amount of websites and software companies are not on the map and will be incorporated in later updates.
