Why do they ignore the warnings? Do they figure the sesors are just being overly cautious?

In a nutshell, truck-drivers in Australia have been under increasing pressures over the years to drive faster/longer by the companies they work for, spurred on by the industries utilising their services, demanding faster turnarounds/deliveries. So, they may have a maximum amount of time they're meant to drive before breaking, but, it doesn't help when your boss says make the 16 hour journey in 12 or you're fired.

There's been a number of major crashes over the years where fatigue and/or speed have been chief cause, which has led to Safe-T-Cam and Average Speed Cameras that record heavy vehicles registrations, then runs the calculations on distance and duration, to work out it they're breaching.

Twice this year I've driven from Sydney to Uluru and back, and had some hair-raising moments going through regional NSW, Victoria, SA and the Top End when prime movers and road trains decide to start doing wobblies as you go to safely overtake.
