It's cool that this guy wants to make these more affordable and it's pretty neat how he redesigned it, but I really think that the video could have been improved if it showed the thing producing parts of something that people will use. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm having trouble thinking of stuff I would want to print. I certainly don't have a use for "hollow cubes", at least not off the top of my head.

...kind of my fundamental argument against 3d printing in general.

They say they want to print a fully functional canoe...

but would you be able to use it?

humanodon  ·  3865 days ago  ·  link  ·

I'd guess so, unless "functional" is defined in an arcane way. That seems like a pain in the ass. They would be better off getting a rubber raft.

You said this and I was like giant mental palm to the forehead. "Functional" does mean "able to use," after all. I think I was concerned about how supportive the resin would be - I'd be worried it would break. But I know very little about resin at all tbh.

:) I don't know shit about resins either. I'd think that a big 3d printer would be better for printing a canoe, but what do I know?

I bet if I had one of these I'd just use it to print toothpicks or something.
