This 10-year graph shows the peak in the number of people who googled the "Armenian Genocide." The peaks begin as the graphs near April 24th of each year, which is the day Armenians commemorate the 1915 genocide.
Huge waves of buzz and New York Times-level news coverage (which this cause never gets) are what sparked the huge boom of google searches towards this particular April. The funny thing is that in this second graph, we see the huge peak actually maxing on exactly April 12th,–– not the 24th.
Why? Because April 12th, 2015 happened to be the very last night that the Kardashian family (Yes, the sisters and our brotha Mr. Kanye West) were staying in the capital, Yerevan, to help raise awareness.
So I guess this is a big shout out to Ye and, boy did I think this is a phrase I'd never have to say, thanks to Kim fucking Kardashian for doing something awesome for a cause that is still fighting for U.S. recognition!
Wooo!
