The quoted text in the subject line caught my attention. It was mentioned by an AI researcher in an interview. Following up on the book, turns out that according to the web, as well, it is well worth reading. (Noted.)

That phrase was rolling around my head. It is quite an efficient little (germinal) string. Just the tension and play between the key words of surprise, fulfillment, and expectation is enough to supply dynamic energy into a creative thought process. But even more fundamentally, I found that the notion itself, as an expression of a kind of aesthetic, to be quite incisive and possibly a practical basis for communication between an author and the readers.

I then speculate that this may be the basis of humor. And/or seduction.
