Like most people, I didn't learn about the core issue behind the Turkey riots until the past couple days. It seems to be sparked by the government wanting to tear up a park to make a shopping mall and it has evolved into a greater resistance to the current government in Turkey.

It seems quite poignant that the citizens would be up in arms about something so basic as a park. What else would be more justifiable for anger though than the government that you elected selling off the common space that you own.

I hope to god that we see these riots in Turkey evolve in a different way than other uprisings in recent time. I do think that Turkey is very much different as a pseudo-western state. I think best case scenario the Turkish government will back off the park and pull in some of its more extreme policies that the people are objecting to.

My thoughts are with the Turkish people and common sense.
