thenewgreen: Data being released for the first time by the government on Wednesday shows that hospitals charge Medicare wildly differing amounts — sometimes 10 to 20 times what Medicare typically reimburses — for the same procedure, raising questions about how hospitals determine prices and why they differ so widely.
About 4 years ago I decided to make a career change. I explored a number of options. One option that was brought to my attention was to sell "Home Health Care," to medical providers. The idea is that I would visit doctors and get them to prescribe my company for "home health care" for their patients. This is when a patient needs a nurse to come visit their home for rehabilitation purposes. The idea is that you only target doctors that are in low income patient areas and have them only prescribe medicare patients. Why? Because medicare just pays and doesn't ask questions. Fraud is SO rampant, its crazy. People/companies/doctors are making fortunes overcharging, falsely prescribing etc. It's a big symbiotic circle of fraud, sucking off the teat of medicare. Which is to say, sucking off of our tax dollars.Massive reform is needed.
Edit: After hearing about the industry, I did not go down this path career wise.
