I was a Jazz studies major something like a lifetime ago. There are recordings of Max and Clifford that I like, but this seems to be pretty much straight ahead jazz, which doesn't really push my buttons anymore. There are recordings which are a lot like this which I enjoy but they were made a a time when this kind of stuff was novel not rote. This could be any jazz combo and no one would really notice.
