Behind the new corporate agenda for education lurks the old politics of profit and self-interest

thenewgreen: There is no doubt that it's about money. There is so much money to be made in education. That's why it should be handled by non-profits. How about this:

want to learn basic algebra? The classroom goes home and watches a video to learn. Then comes in to class and does their "homework" in the classroom and the teacher is there for one-on-one help. The student could log in at home and the teacher would know whether they are participating or not. Students can pause, rewind etc. If by 8pm the student hasn't logged in to view the lesson an automated call could be placed to the home/parent letting them know. -Increased accountability.

Kids don't all learn at the same pace. I really think the Khan academy is on to something.
