We use a constantly increasing amount of energy to fuel increasing economic activity, and in the long term, our energy use alone can easily eclipse emissions as the primary driver of global warming.

It will take massive socioeconomic transformations to uncouple energy from growth. If we have fusion tomorrow, we will act like idiots for decades and limit the supply to something far lower than our ability to produce it. That would be the time to move towards anarchism, but we won't.

But, there is something else here, isn't there? All new money is debt, and that debt requires growth to avoid contraction. Could new currency help break the coupling?
