Here's a vid of one of the launches.

When I check local radar this time of year, I like to zoom wayyyyy out and see if any thunderstorms have something like a hook echo. If anything looks promising, I check this feed, and there's usually always someone live-streaming a tornado chase, if it looks like something could touch down. But the drone thing is great, and marks a new era of tornado observations.

Tomorrow looks pretty ominous for the northeast Texas area (check the "Day 2" outlook), so they might get to fly the drones two days in a row. What a cool job.

I like tornadoes:

And someday I might pull a Ben Franklin and fly a sensor-equipped drone or several up into a thunderstorm to try and figure out what the hell is causing the electric fields that can generate lightning. That sounds like my type of mid-life crisis.

am_Unition:

Perhaps the biggest predicted tornado outbreak of 2019 today. Be sure to check the twitter feed if you can, especially after about 1800 UTC (3:00 PM CDT) and get the word out to people and/or organizations in the path of anything that looks menacing. We're living in a golden(?) age where social media and engagement of strangers online can save lives. Be that strange.

I'm just glad to see that this outbreak is predicted to negatively impact an especially small amount of human life and has a lot of potential to yield some great data!
