If we are to survive, then we need to reduce the dependence upon consumption. It would be nice if non-degradable single-use products cost more because of their environmental impact. It would be nice if new homes cost significantly more than updating older ones.

It would be nice if there was a perception of value for the longevity of what we own and wear.

I take a dim view on this. I don't think we will be able to alter our behavior voluntarily, but I do think that we will alter it.
