There are massive wildfires in Tennessee right now, and they have destroyed some iconic locations. The fire department is fighting a tough battle right now, and this article has the following quote:

“If you’re a person of prayer, we could use your prayers,” Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said Monday night...

I am struck by the sensitivity and inclusiveness of that statement.

Instead of the demanding form most people use - "pray for us", like it's an imperative, or an order - Fire Chief Miller simply asked anyone who prays in any way to think of them, and send the good word to their god-being.

As an anti-religion Atheist, even I am moved by his request, simply because of the way he said it.

THIS is the America I believe in. A land of many beliefs, and an embracing view of all of them.

I think I'd like Fire Chief Miller.

Prayer doesn't necessarily HAVE to imply a religious connotation.... though I'm sure enough academics here would tell me I'm wrong if I didn't already acknowledge them here.

The golden rule abounds! There's an interesting story behind the essence of the rule and the role of money, on a different note.

Sending good vibes to Tennessee!
