The problem is, as Glenn Greenwald points out, buying a gun is a constitutional right in the United States. You can say that's crazy, and say we should amend the Constitution, and that's all well and good. But in the meantime, that's the reality. The government doesn't get to choose which rights are important and which are not; that's the whole point of having a Constitution.
