Interesting move.

It basically allows them to increase their cashflow without increasing their exposure. They get to be the Rent-A-Center of sedans: Wanna drive for Uber? Overpay for a car. Sick of driving for Uber? Give the car back and we'll make someone else overpay. Exactly the sort of move you would see when credit is too cheap and their business model relies on victimizing people with poor credit.
