Yeah, I saw that on my Facebook feed, too. I don't get it - qanats aren't exactly novel, they're common from Morocco to China and they look pretty much identical from space.

Of course, if you wanted to know what a qanat was for you ask the guys maintaining them like their families have since 1000 BC...
