SHOULDN'T HAVE GONE OUT OF TOWN

Ha okay anyway, I was at the Art Institute of Chicago this morning and a couple of lesser-known paintings (in comparison) caught my eye.

Fisherman's Cottage, Harald Sohlberg

The light in this painting is astonishing. I wish the image could do it justice; it literally seemed to glow from across the room, never seen anything like it.

Geese and Cows, Theodor Philipsen

For some reason this is the best and only image I could really find on google, and it's terrible. The defining characteristic of this painting is the ephemerality of the geese -- it's harder to tell there, but they're surprisingly translucent, whether on purpose or not. The oranges in the water bleed through and lend a dreamlike quality to the whole thing.

WanderingEng:

Fisherman's Cottage looks so fantastic. The horizon and the lighting of the sky looks flawless. I like that I can't tell if it's a sunrise, a sunset or maybe even a moonrise.
