Crown 2, Sonnets 31-37

This horrid winter lasts so ever long:

The April rain is ice and snow and sleet,

The little birds may chirp but have no song,

The sun is high, but cannot give me heat.

If You were here, then You would be my fire

To warm me while this hefty blizzard reigns

With love and luscious lips and loud desire

All pumping precious blood throughout my veins.

With You then sun will once again come out,

The little birds sing melodies We know,

The clouds will go and deer will dance about,

The flowers bloom, and trees begin to grow.

Until the day that You become my Queen:

Upon this frozen throne will I be seen.

-

Upon this frozen throne will I be seen

By all the vicious sinners in this land,

Their vapid grimace, bitter lips and lean

And snowburned forms all reaching out a hand

To touch their king who wanted nothing more

But love from You, a Queen so far away,

A girl that in all things I do adore

But spy well only when the wind doth sway

To ‘llow me hear Your ever song-filled voice

That melts the sinners’ hearts and makes them howl

And wish that they might once have ta’en the choice

To have a love and smile instead of scowl.

But till such time as they leave me alone

I will be frozen to this icy throne.

-

I will be frozen to this icy throne,

Immovable, unable e’en to stand,

A wish for song but hearing just the drone

Of frightened figures wandering this land,

Until such time as I might spy Your face

And hear Your voice with pleas for me to come,

When blood of mine will heat and heart will race

(The figures frightened of that bloody drum),

At which such time the throne will melt away

And I will stand and start my journey forth

To find the place without such wint’rish day,

To come to You, to see what I am worth.

Despite the tests of misery and strife,

I’ll make it through these obstacles of life.

-

I’ll make it through these obstacles of life:

The pain of scars of old and wounds anew,

The memories that claw and hook and knife,

The body’s sickness always passing through;

The sinners and the liars and the cheats

That hold up hands and stop me in my tracks,

Red Rover lines unbreaking down the streets

With muscled faces filling in the cracks;

The precious, rare resources that I need,

‘Round which the ununited worlds revolve

(That one uniting factor known as greed),

And without which my journey can’t resolve.

Though any foe could lead to my demise

My fortitude is stronger than surmised.

-

My fortitude is stronger than surmised,

And as Your shaking body burns by tears,

I will arrive to Your ingrained surprise,

And with my cool embrace go all Your fears,

Your cares, the only question on Your lips

Is if I’ll stay forever by Your side,

And so I’ll lay my hands upon Your hips,

I’ll kiss You slow and then I will confide:

“You are the only girl to warm my heart,

The only girl to take off her false mask,

And seeing You, I knew we’d never part--

I’m here, and I’ll do anything You ask;

And since You tell me ‘never go away,’

Right by Your side is where I’ll ever stay.”

-

Right by Your side is where I’ll ever stay

To cool that boiling water on Your brow,

To keep those heavy thoughts of Yours at bay,

To love You ever more -- and this I vow,

For You are much in need of icy hands,

To keep Your heated bod from catching fire,

To have someone give in to Your demands

With love and luscious lips and sweet desire;

For You I’ll be that calming, sought-for prize,

And as I cool Your soul You’ll heat up mine;

Forever looking in each others’ eyes

We’ll know that from now on this world is fine.

So when we meet, as far as I can see:

Nor cold nor hot shall we forever be.

-

Nor cold nor hot, shall we forever be

A balance of each others’ Yang and Yin;

To be no “You” and “I,” but simply “We”

(That “We” becoming larger with Our kin),

Takes nothing more but reaching out a hand,

And brushing, with my fingertips, Your skin--

But first I must move out of this cold land

To prove my love, so Your heart might I win.

Despite Your voice be all I said it takes

To melt this frozen throne on which I sit,

It seems unfortunate for both Our sakes

And hurts me still that I must yet admit:

Because I don’t believe I’m yet that strong

This horrid winter lasts so ever long.
