An introduction to the theory of Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci, famous for reappropriating the concept of "hegemony" to build an alternative Marxist political theory to that of Leninism. Gramsci spent the last decade of his life in fascist prisons, writing his Prison Notebooks, fragments of which fill 29 volumes. Simon's introduction is a much needed starting place to understanding Gramsci.
