I can remember when the People Mover was first built. We went down to Detroit with my grandparents largely in part to ride the People Mover. It was a big deal when it arrived. I remember thinking as a kid that it was an unusual name for a transit system, I still think that. It just seems like someone was lazy when coming up with the name.

"Johnson, what have you and your marketing team decided to call our futuristic transit system?"

"Ummm... We were thinking either "The Thing That Transports Humans Around Detroit, the TTTTHAD for short" or "The People Mover."

Lesser of two bad suggestions?
