It's funny and sad. Not all audiences are created equal. Of course, Yahoo! isn't interested in much but the size of their audience. That is their final metric. It seems that The New Republic might now be similarly motivated. That certain strategies sacrifices one type of audience for another seems painfully obvious, but so much effort goes into obfuscating this fact. If the point of a media company is to make money, then you aren't going to have a very interesting media company.
