Prof Hawking says the primitive forms of artificial intelligence developed so far have already proved very useful, but he fears the consequences of creating something that can match or surpass humans. "It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate," he said. "Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete, and would be superseded."

I have no doubt this will happen. We will create something that will quickly become smarter than us, and take over. The next stage of evolution will be man-made. I'm strangely ok with this. Humans are pitifully weak as it is. Bags of skin that leak fluid constantly and have to tended to, filled with food and liquid, and die much too soon.

I feel a little bit sad that I'm not one of the machines that will rule the world in the next generation, probably around the year 2045 but by 2099 according to Ray Kurzweil. But maybe they'll include us in their plans. Meh. "Life" goes on, yes?
