We had lots of caddisflies growing up. The reservoir we found them in was mostly volcanic mud, but there was also bits of quartz, tiger eye and an iridescent blue stone that looked kind of like mother-of-pearl. As such, the caddisfly larvae looked a lot like this - only the gold was black bits of bark.
