[Allan W.] Pollack started his series with choosing 28 songs more or less arbitrarily from the songbook of the Beatles. These articles are especially interesting, because Pollack spices his analyses with some lucid explanations of his musicological insights and knowledge. If you are unknown in musicological territory, the best you can do is to read these pieces in numerical order.

The musicological parts were too much for me, but his general notes are really interesting and accessible.

thenewgreen: This is great. I could waste a LOT of time here. I am going to begin reading through they cannon in chronological order. Love me Do was spot on, I agree with his assessment. Very much a byproduct of skiffle but underneath there is that electricity inherent to rock and roll.
