I've recently had the experience of designing an engagement ring for my soon-to-be fiancée and I've been debating with myself about traditional styled vs modern/personalized rings. As I understand it, and as the article suggests, rings have been meant to be timeless; something that is passed down through generations. Will non-traditional rings be a regret 20, 30, 40 years down the line?

thenewgreen: I went simple with my wife's setting but went all out with the diamond. I figured we could change the setting and the band as we could afford to. We have been married for 7 years now and on our 5th anniversary I told her I was getting it cleaned and surprised her with a new setting. -It's bad ass. It's not "flashy" but elegant. -Timeless.

I say keep it timeless so that your great granddaughter will want to wear it. But who knows, maybe your great granddaughter will take it, melt it down and make it in to a band with the Black Lantern symbol on it?

My brother recently got married and his officiant ended with, "and now by the power of Grey Skull, I now pronounce you man and wife". -It was awesome.

Congrats by the way.
