As I gleefully recall, I honestly believe that Walt Disney's Cinderella provided my maiden voyage into the wonders of cinema. That event occurred so very many yesterdays ago when American animation would never be surpassed--a uniquely authentic and creative time arguably lost to us in our 21st century. I hope that your mom takes the time to check out the amazing, truly gorgeous and far more expressive animation that is currently taking place out there today. There's nothing wrong with nostalgia, trust me.. I could wax on about movies from my childhood and have but I wouldn't suggest that they'd "never be surpassed." -Also, what is meant by "arguably lost in our 21st century?" -Again, I have nothing against nostalgia, in fact I'm a sucker for it but I think there is such a thing as generational ethnocentricity. Thinking that those things from your era are superior or unique in their effects and judging future art with the limitations of the art of your era. More often than not, this is not a good approach.
