Pope Francis opposes legalizing drugs for recreational use, calling it "a veiled means of surrendering to the phenomenon" of drug use and addiction.
He wasn't quite naysaying recreational drug use outright. He was criticising legalisation and decriminalisation as tactics for countering organised crime or preventing/healing addiction and its consequences.
