Her comparison of the step-by-step slow, repetitive process of physiotherapy to the process of social change is incredibly sad, but probably true.

Her line about her identity as a proud gun owner is cringe-inducing. I am somewhat mystified that owning a gun is a source of pride, but I guess one can be proud of one's gun collection in the same way one is proud of their art collection or shelf of books. I wonder if she is using the word "proud" to mean "unapologetic." What would you put in the blank?

I'm a proud ___________________ owner.

I think the word "proud" is there for the detractors. It's hard to dismiss her as a "lefty" when she is a gun enthusiast herself.

I heard her husband on NPR not too long ago and he said they've actually shot at a range since her accident. I found it a bit cringe worthy too. But then, many people get hit by cars driven by drunk drivers, recover and then enthusiastically drive cars again. -Bad analogy?
