flagamuffin, check out this short story by CD Hermelin. It's great.

Huge fan. This is the same guy, I guess? His little bit with the typewriter really reminded me of 500 Days of Summer. His hobby springs from the same sort of offbeat lifestyle as the titular character has -- and this short story also has that attitude. 500 Days is about people trying to live a movie together, and in this piece ... Life's a movie, right? Things are supposed to happen to me, right? Entitled Gen Y, right? Etc.

I think everyone at some point has fallen into the western literature, Hollywood trap of believing that things are just going to happen to them soon. Sometimes that attitude persists and then one day you're 30 and nothing happened; sometimes, as in the story, what happens has an unscripted and negative feel.

Either way I understand the impulse.
